Fall Semester Grades
The fall semester grades have been reported and to say the least, I am quite pleased with the results. As I keep noting here at "the lines are still good", we stress performance in the classroom at Concordia as we are not just a program of athletes but rather, student athletes.
The women's team recorded an excellent team GPA of 3.53. We have become accustomed to seeing this tremendous achievement from the women but this is still an incredible overall average and certainly noteworthy. Individually, we had five on the roster achieve a perfect 4.0 for the semester. Join me in congratulating Yuliya Plevako, Camilla Xavier, Ana Mendes, Nicole Stuhr and Estelle Fougeray for their dedication and accomplishment.
Fresh off of their 2011-2012 ITA All-Academic Team status, the men's team not only kept up the pace but improved GPA-wise. The fellas also achieved a team GPA of 3.53. This is the highest semester team GPA for the men since I joined the coaching staff in 1999. Absolutely wonderful! In addition, please join along and congratulate David Tisserand on a perfect 4.0 for the term.
Now one might say that both teams registering a 3.53 is quite coincidental. I agree. However, to be completely honest, the women outdid the men just fractionally 3.528 to 3.526...not that this is a competition. It will be interesting to see what happens in the spring semester for sure.
I am so very proud of my players for many reasons but this ranks near the top of the list. Everyone knows that we have great players here but may not be aware of the fact that we also have great people, citizens and students. Our job as coaches is really just to love all of them and to guide them along the path to becoming successful members of society. We take that obligation seriously.
It is a great pleasure to be associated with these teams and to have the opportunity to affect young lives in a hopefully positive way.

On and Off the Court...

The fall semester grades have been recorded and there is plenty of good news to report for both the men and women of the court here at Concordia.
Your Clipper men posted a solid 2.98 GPA for the fall with 2 players, Mark Mozer and Geza Bazula, achieving perfect 4.0 semesters. These two, along with two others, Benas Majauskas and Dani Piludu, have eclipsed the 3.5 GPA necessary to be ITA Academic All-Americans if they can keep up the good work in the spring. All four will appear on the college's Dean's List for the semester. Whereas the 2.98 team GPA is solid, it is slightly below our goal of 3.2 which is the necessary GPA to achieve the ITA Academic All-American Team standing.
The Clipper women have really impressed with a team GPA of 3.67 for the semester. This is a tremendous accomplishment considering this was achieved during their championship season which requires great tennis demands in addition to the academic tasks. Congratulations to Ana Mendes who achieved a perfect 4.0 for the semester. In addition to Ana, Juliana Frey, Camilla Xavier, and Yuliya Plevako all also achieved a 3.5 or better and will appear on the Dean's List for the semester. Clearly the women's team is in great shape to have several individual Academic All-Americans as well as to secure the team award.
The coaching staff takes great pride in the team's successes off the tennis court. We always strive to have good student athletes that will be ready to succeed in society upon graduation.
Well done!

ITA Scholar Athletes Announced...

The ITA (the governing body of college tennis) has announced their list of Scholar Athletes for the 2010-2011 academic year. We are very pleased and proud to have three members of the team mentioned among the elite student athletes in the country.
Congratulations to Felix Missal, Geza Bazula and Davis Tisserand. These three young men have distinguished themselves both on the court and in the classroom. A student athlete must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the academic year to be honored.

2010 ITA All Academic-Teams and Scholar-Athletes Announced...
Some very special news has been announced. Both Andrey Boldarev and Raphael Namias were named to a select group of NCAA II Scholar Athletes for the 2009-2010 academic year. In doing so, the two student athletes achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the entire academic period.
Your Clippers fell just short of the team honor achieving a cumulative team GPA of 3.11 for the academic year. A 3.2 GPA is needed for the distinction. We certainly hope to achieve this prestigious honor in the near future as we are proud of our accomplishments not only on the tennis court, but in classroom as well.
Congratulations to both Andrey and Raphael on a job well done. As previously mentioned, Raphael Namias has transferred to NYU to pursue specific academic interests and will not be returning.

CACC Spring All-Academic Team

The CACC has announced its spring All-Academic team (click here for full press release). This year Clipper Andrey Boldarev is one of eight tennis athletes in the conference to be honored. An athlete is recognized if he/she achieves a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic year and has attended the member institution for at least two years. According to conference figures, Andrey qualified with a 3.6 for the year. Congratulations to Andrey who excels both on the court and in the classroom.

Academic Achievement...

Hello again Clipper fans,
It has been a great season with many success stories on the court. Many great achievements and subsequent memories created. However, one area that is not often highlighted is that of the academic success.
This year the team compiled a collective Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.11 on a 4.0 scale. This is essentially a B to B+ average. I would say that this is a strong accomplishment and indicates that we strive for excellence both on the court and in the classroom. This coach believes strongly in the "student athlete" and emphasizes such achievement. Unfortunately, we fell just short of our goal of reaching Academic All-American status as a team as a 3.2 GPA is needed.
In some great news, Raphael and Andrey have qualified for Academic All-American status as individuals and have thus achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the entire scholastic year. Congratulations boys and keep up the good work.
If you should happen to bump into any of the players, feel-free to congratulate them on a wonderful athletic and scholastic season. These are young men to be proud of and also student athletes to be encouraged for further success. The time goes by quickly my friends, enjoy the ride to the fullest.

The grades are in...
Clearly, an average of 3.23 is rather stellar and the team should be proud of themselves for excelling in the classroom as well as on the tennis court. One of the goals set by the coaching staff is to achieve a collective team GPA of 3.2 or higher. Attaining this would qualify the squad for a spot on the ITA All-Academic team list. Certainly no small accomplishment. In addition, players achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the 2009-2010 school year will be named as an ITA Scholar Athlete.
Last season the Clippers fell just short of the team honor yet had two named to the Scholar Athlete roll. Keep up the good work and lets hope for some good news in May.
